Houston area contractor, Home Exterior Systems, has been selected as one of this year’s winners of Synchrony Financial Working Forward contests. The $20,000 dollar prize is awarded to small businesses who enter the annual contest by describing how they would direct the proceeds, half of which is used to help the business directly. The remaining $10,000 is applied towards the community in an effort to give back.
This year, Home Exterior Systems had no trouble deciding how they would use the prize with all the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The exterior focused business plans to invest in expanding its business towards flood recovery certification and training, a decision was driven by the desire to help neighbors and trusted past customers. Partner Vicky McCollim said, “The generous $10,000 award will go a long way towards getting Home Exterior Systems staff in a position to help our customers recover from these devasting weather events.”
For the community portion of the award, Home Exterior Systems, LLC is directing $10,000 to the Institute For Renovation Contractors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to education and job skills training related to home renovation and recovery. The organization was created to address the extreme shortage of skilled trade workers to fill some of the millions of job vacancies. “We are absolutely thrilled about this generous and important award from Synchrony Financial and Home Exterior Systems, said Kenny Manchester, Executive Director. This event also kicks off a series of activities that put IFRC plans in motion, plans that will yield jobs and accelerate disaster recovery.”
